Let’s make a street where communities connect and problem solve to make the best use of local resources and skills so that we create change that places social, climate, digital and energy justice and equity firmly at its heart now and into the future.

  • The climate crisis is affecting us all. Union Street is particularly at risk of rising sea levels and flooding.

The buildings are old, often in poor condition, have had years of neglect and so are expensive and hard to heat and retrofit.

Despite the lack of investment there are lots of opportunity to repurpose and reuse buildings, materials and resources within our community.

The communities along Union Street and to the north are much less likely to have any access to the internet or data.

Taking local action to demonstrate how we can act now and contribute to global issues creates a more hopeful future for young people and future generations.

Long term ethical stewardship of land and property that puts our community at the centre is an investment that has impact now and lasts for generations.

  • Everyone making change on the street considered social, climate, economic, digital and energy justice as a priority and shared responsibility to creating a street with an equitable future.

We had the infrastructure and skills in our community to manufacture, retrofit and get buildings ready for the future in ways that met local need.

Union Street became known as a place for digital inclusion and innovation - where people have access to resources that enable them to learn, innovate and play.

We use all the space we can to grow the food and plants we need - from rooftops to indoor farming.

We re-use empty buildings. We repurpose them in affordable and inspiring ways. We reuse materials and make sure we preserve and enhance what makes these spaces unique for future generations.

These are some of the actions that can start to make this happen…
