Cherish our heritage

Let’s make a street that celebrates all of its histories, uses and hidden stories in relevant and creative ways.

Why is this important?

It is not OK that historic and listed buildings are at risk and are not properly cared for.

The history of the street hasn’t been recognised or celebrated enough.

People want to feel proud of where they live and work and that their memories, culture and heritage are of value and are reflected on the street in the future.

The street was built to connect people and connect the three towns that formed Plymouth. At the moment there is no real sense of that.

Lack of investment means that buildings are crumbling away, some have been demolished and others will soon be beyond saving.

Imagine if…

You can find out about and feel the history of the street and the changes it has seen when you spend time here.

The heritage buildings are renovated, celebrated and find new uses.

As a community we find ways to celebrate the memories attached to the street from nightclubs, music, cinema, photography and theatre.

Private owners are motivated to maintain and look after the original features in their buildings.

It is normal to feel proud and celebrate Union Street in lots of different ways and others want to visit.

What actions could happen…
